Participation of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment in ISOCARP Conference 2019

The State of Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, participated in the activities of the 55th International Society of City and Regional Planners (ISOCARP) Conference, which was held recently in the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. The conference discussed many planning issues for cities and regions and showcased global experiences from all over the world. The Ministry's delegation was led by Eng. Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Qahtani, Assistant Undersecretary for Urban Planning Affairs and Eng. Adullah Ahmad Al-Karrani, Director of the Urban Planning Department. The delegation participated in the scientific activities and technical workshops as well as presented an important number of research, working papers and case studies that analyzed the urban and planning development in Qatar. On the sidelines of the conference, Eng. Fahad bin Mohammed Al Qahtani, Assistant Undersecretary for Urban Planning Affairs, signed the contract to host the 56th ISOCARP conference in Doha, November 2020, which will coincide with the start of the countdown to complete all the preparations to host the FIFA World Cup 2022. The total number of research papers presented at the conference was (6) research and technical papers. The topics of which ranged from dealing with the city of Doha as an example of the metropolitan city, to the study of urban centers and their compatibility with Transit Oriented Development (ToD). Ms. Noora Al-Suwaidi, Urban Planner in the Urban Planning Sector, also participated in the Young Planning Professionals Workshop, which was held to provide planning solutions for an important urban area in Jakarta.
