The opening of the forum was attended by Fahad al-Qahtani, Assistant Undersecretary for Planning Affairs at the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME); Abdullah al-Karani, director of the Urban Planning Department at the MME, Ibrahim Abbas, director of the Infrastructure Planning Department; and Turki Fahd al-Turki, assistant director of the Urban Planning Department, alongside Han Yong Hoe, deputy CEO at the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore and head of the Singaporean delegation, and Singapore;s ambassador to Qatar Jai S Sohan. Al-Qahtani said that the event, ?Urban Forum Qatar-Singapore, is being held in Doha as a key outcome of a co-operation agreement signed between the Urban Redevelopment Authority of Singapore and the Urban Development Planning Sector in Qatar in 2009, which resulted in a number of recommendations and important decisions in the field. He said the forum is a good platform to exchange technical expertise and experiences and explore the possibility of future co-operation between the two countries in the field with all the involved challenges and opportunities. He noted that the forum would further enhance the exchange of experiences and introduce the Singaporean delegation to the latest key projects in Qatar. The official added that a number of urban planning employees were delegated to Singapore for training. In the past two years, five employees studied there as an outcome of the co-operation agreement signed earlier.
